The mayor of St. Clears, Mr. Tom Brown, officially opened a multimedia exhibition featuring film and photographs of St. Clears from 1900 onwards. Mr. Brown said “It is extremely important to preserve local history.” He highly commended the efforts of the organisers Alan Evans and Stella Griffiths. The mayor and mayoress of Laugharne Mr. Leonard and Mrs. June Brown also attended the opening and made a very generous donation towards the continuation of the work. The Gallery is located at the town hall in lower St. Clears and the exhibition is open to the public until December. Admission is free and the organisers are keen to involve schools in Carmarthenshire. Photographer and curator Alan Evans said “We have created a space where you can see, hear and feel the history of St. Clears.” The mayor of Laugharne said “It is an extremely interesting exhibition which provides a wealth of information for locals and visitors alike.” The numerous dignitaries and invited guests were unanimous in their commendation of the exhibition. Stella and Alan are hoping that they will receive some funding from their town council so that the exhibition could be given a permanent home. The gallery is open from 10a.m. to 3p.m. Friday, Saturday & Sunday. The organisers wish to thank all who attended and a special thanks to Josie Jackson of the Butchers Arms for providing the hospitality after the event.
