Jones and Howell families
Hello
I am connected to the Jones and Howell families from the St Clears area. I would be very interested in any photographs of Ira Jones and the rest of his family that may be in the collection. What is the best way of checking the availability of any photographs relating to this family?
Thanks
Helen

Old photos
I have a contact in Australia whose ancestors lived in Seion Lodge in the early 1900's. I was wondering if there were any photos of Joseph Davies, a mason, b.1850, or of Seion Lodge? Also is there anywhere locally to buy the book as I cannot make the opening times of the exhibition.
Thank you, Elizabeth

Photos of the Weather
Hello!
I've been to St Clears to look for the exhibition, but couldn't find it unfortunately. So, I'm hoping to contact you directly to ask whether there are photos of the weather or its effects, e.g. floods in the collection?
I'm a PhD students at Aberystwyth University and am studying the effects of the weather on West Wales, and would be very grateful if you could answer my enquiry.
Many thanks,
Cerys

Carmarthen Art School -
I am currently a resident artist at Oriel Myrddin, Carmarthen co-ordinating weave workshops. Whilst there I have been undertaking research on the history of the building, the former Arts School from 1854 - 1978. I have discovered photographs of students working at the school by William John D. Evans who lived at Osbourne House, St. Clears.
I wondered if he had any connections with Stanley Phillips or if there is any further information on his practice in St. Clears? I am also trying to source any other photographic documentation of the Carmarthen Art School and whether there is imagery taken by Stanley Phillips?
May I add that this research will culminate into a body of new art work.
Thank you
Ainsley Hillard

I was very interested to see the item on the news recently about the discovery of these old photographs etc.
My grandparents were born & spent all their lives in St Clears - born 1889 & 1896. I have a large framed photograph of Bethlehem chapel surounded by all the men who went to WW1. It was presented to my grandfather Jonah Griffiths - I assume all the men in the photograph were also presented with one. I also have a similar photograph showing his brother Willy Griffiths, who died in WW1 -showing him with his ship. Both are signed Stanley Phillip. I am looking forward to coming down to see the exhibition. If you are interested in borrowing these photographs for the exhibition, you're welcome - but as they are quite large let me know and I can bring them with me.
I also have 3 other photographs with the name Stanley Phillips on although I have no idea who 2 of them are of.
I lived in St Clears myself in the mid 1950s - with my grandparents in Castle Cottage.
Look forward to attending the exhibition soon
Regards

Your Website
Thank you so much for sharing your father's photography with us all here at Americymru! You have created a wonderful website in memory of your father.
I am a Freelance Photographer, a member of the Welsh League of Arizona and a Welsh language learner. I have been to Wales three times, 2002, 2003 and 2006. I hope to be back there next summer to see North Wales for the first time.
You will see that there are a number of very talented actors, musicians, artists and photographers here on this site, as well as many who are associated with Welsh organizations. Of course, there are others who are of Welsh descent who own a business and have websites and those who are just interested in learning more about their Welsh heritage.
I have been to Carmarthen on Market Day in 2002 with a friend from Pontarddulais and again visited Carmarthen with a friend from Llangadog i 2006.

Book and exhibition
Thank you, Stella and Alan, for meeting me recently whilst I was on holiday in St Clears.
My mother grew up in St Clears in the 1920s and 1930s and I'm hoping to bring her back to see your exhibition.
She has lots of happy memories of her time there, and it would be wonderful if you have found some photos of her and her brother, mother and father. Her mother taught at Glasfryn School and her father was a railway station master. Hope to see you again later this year.

It was a pleasure to work on the book with Stanley's daughter Stella. Stanley Phillips has at last been recognised for his photographic work in St Clears. There are a lot of his images floating around and being used without any credits. It is hoped that this will be corrected in time.
The importance of his work should not be underestimated. St Clears has a rich legacy om images which should be treasured for generations to come. He was a man ahead of his time.
